Taking the First Steps to Start the Foundation of Our New Campus

Before we begin, let’s recap how we arrived at this moment. In May of 2021, we received a $50,000 donation and $10,000 of that purchased land in Brewerville, Liberia. Moving forward to June 2022, we started having discussions on the type of building we wanted. By late August, we started a "Name Our Campaign" contest to raise funds for this first step. Then by February, we raised 76% of our $11,000 goal. From that point, we sent $8,365 to start making the bricks for the foundation.

As we continue with the layout design of our new campus, we started making the cement blocks for the foundation. Our crew of eight, under the leadership of Augustine Koroma, made almost 3,000 blocks in three weeks. The target is 9,000 blocks.

The team mixes cement, crushed rocks, sand, and water by hand instead of using an electronic mixer. As you will see in the photos below, the work is back-breaking. Fortunately, this team is willing to do the work, and we provide food and a small token for their efforts.
