Sharing Liberia’s Story 🇱🇷: A Cultural Awareness Presentation at Plymouth Cornerstone Cooperative

On August 20, 2025, Uniting Distant Stars (UDS) had the honor of presenting to the Plymouth Cornerstone Cooperative Community, a vibrant group of residents aged 62 and older. About 30 attendees gathered to learn more about Liberia’s rich history, culture, and the work UDS is doing to empower youth through education and vocational training.

The presentation was led by:

  • Rich Berkely, UDS Board Member – Historic Liberian and U.S. Connection

  • Philip Kaleewoun, UDS Board Member – Liberian Culture

  • Heather Cannon, UDS Co-Founder & Executive Director – Youth Empowerment Through Education & Vocational Training

Each speaker brought a unique perspective, weaving together stories of Liberia’s founding, cultural traditions, and the challenges and triumphs of youth development. The audience was engaged and curious, and the final 20 minutes were dedicated to a lively Q&A session. Thoughtful questions were asked about Liberia’s history, cultural practices, and how UDS supports young people in becoming self-sufficient.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Donna Cannon (Heather’s mom) and Darlene Swanson, CCC’s Social Community Chair, for organizing and inviting us to this meaningful event. Darlene shared afterward:

“I've heard many positive comments about your presentation. Good luck in all of your efforts for this worthy cause.”

We’re grateful for the opportunity to share Liberia’s story and the impact of UDS with such a warm and welcoming community.
