UDS Statement of Support for George Floyd
Dear Star Supporter,
We hope you are healthy and well! Today, we wanted to write to you about UDS' official stand regarding Mr. George Floyd, a Black Man who died on May 25, after he was pinned down by a white Minnesota police officer. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and community. We cannot condone this continuation of Black Lives being taken unjustly in this country or anywhere else.
By now, all of us have watched the outrage and protests this has caused across America and the world. This nation and world have remained at the crossroads of racial tension for centuries. Will Mr. Floyd's horrific and unwarranted death allow us to make the right turn? That is a question for all of us ponder.
As you can imagine, UDS' leadership and students are following these events closely, as are many around the world. As an organization, we stand together in seeing justice served and advocating for reforms that will bring equality and equity for all people.
We are grateful for your support of Liberian Children and Youth receiving primary education and vocational training at our center. As always, we will continue our mission to make young people feel included, safe, and valued in this world we all share. As MLK eloquently said,
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
